Facebook is a continuously changing beast and the managers are behind the scenes always trying to figure out how to make the user experience better for everyone. A few weeks ago, Facebook made the announcement that user feeds would now prioritize content posted by friends and family, rather than by news sites and companies. While this may seem like a fantastic shift, the impact of the change will likely have both positive and negative consequences.
Facebook Users May Become Less Informed
In the past few years, the way that we consume news as a society has changed dramatically. While the newspapers and news stations still exist, many people have stopped using those avenues and begun getting news online, especially from Facebook. The shift in priority may push some pertinent local news stories out of users’ feeds, where they would have seen the news immediately before.
