Virtual Affair Causes Real Divorce
A UK woman is divorcing her husband after finding out his online character was having an affair with a virtual woman character in the digital world ‘Second Life’.
The 28 year-old Amy Taylor said her 3-year marriage to David Pollard, 40, had to end when she walked on him twice while he was with another virtual woman.
Second Life allows players to create avatars that can socialize, develop relationships, buy property and set up businesses in an imaginary world, all by using virtual currency.
The two got married in real life in 2003 after meeting in an online chat room and subsequently also got married on Second Life.
Taylor actually suspected her husband and hired a virtual detective to test whether his avatar was cheating on her.
