Car Dealerships and the Web
A significant number of drivers are big fans of Toyota vehicles, specifically their style, dependability, gas mileage and overall bang for the buck. I wanted to see how the Internet is used by a Toyota dealership to sell their cars so I explored the Toyota Camry Virginia website.
The home page has a simple layout and describes Toyota’s history and some details about the dealership. Beyond the first page, the main website focuses mostly on providing new and pre-owned vehicle inventory details such as interior and exterior details, colors, accessories, options, and price. The user can truly customize the vehicle to the exact specifications they are looking for. There is also information about financing a purchase, servicing your vehicle, and a special rebates section.
The home page is essentially a landing sales page that links the visitors to the dealership’s main website. The home page is quite simple, and one would think that a large car dealership such as this one would have the resources to offer a more eye-catching site. The emphasis with this sales page is on text and not flashy images, which is quite opposite to what’s offered by the official Toyota.com website. On the othe hand, simple is often effective with search engines as well as many Internet users, so this approach could very well work.
