Green Tech – My Solar Panel Exploration
Amid all the talk of offshore drilling and expanding nuclear facilities, it often seems like we are overlooking the cleanest and most obvious energy source known to man – solar energy. As both a tech-fanatic and tree-huger, I am very keen on keeping updated on what technology can do for the health of our planet.
Taking care of the environment is not something that we can keep putting off into the uncertain future, and we all have a responsibility to do our part. This includes demanding our politicians implement policies to help curb climate change, as well as doing what we can to help at home. Things like installing energy-efficient lighting, proper heating insulation, double pain windows, solar panels, and other environmentally friendly products will help us to help the Earth.
Many governments are offering rebate programs for earth-friendly items, lessening the expense, particularly for solar panels. Interestingly enough, solar panels are becoming the new granite or stainless steal, and are starting to be considered a prime buying feature in the real estate market. In turn, increasing the value of your home after panel installation. There are some businesses online that you can order solar panels from, I found the information from a company called Empire Solar particularly helpful.
The key reason I am considering solar panels for my home is, chiefly, the environment. I can afford to pay my utility bills, but none of us can afford to keep polluting the environment the way that we do. This is the same reason why I drive a fuel-efficient car and try to minimize its use by walking.
A secondary benefit, is actually financial. Solar installation sometimes gets the bad wrap of being expensive, but I think people need to look at the long-term potential savings. By switching to solar you are not subjected to price increases and inflation from the electric companies – also, if you generate more energy than you use, you can sell the surplus back to those same companies. Personally, I really like the thought of not being dependent on electric companies to power my house, and will continue to pursue the idea of installing solar panels on my home.
