And even if a band did get some minimal traction, I&#039;m thinking they&#039;d still scrap this model at the first sign of a record deal. But, at the same time, I&#039;ve heard record deals can be pretty bad from the standpoint of the artist.

I guess the question is, how much traffic / downloads / pay would you need as an artist to stick with this model over the traditional? I&#039;m assuming there&#039;s no one right answer; it varies widely.</description>

		<description>It might not be a viable model for the majority of artists, but there are plenty for whom I think Radiohead&#039;s experiment must be pretty exciting. For unknown, independent artists, getting their music heard by as many as possible is a real goal. This would give them a nice middle ground between forcing people to pay full price for an unknown commodity and being subject to people downloading it free. This way way the music is legal &lt;i&gt;and&lt;/i&gt; the artist gets at least some money.</description>
